What’s new in this year’s calls for proposals?

On 9 September, the Knowledge Foundation will open its annual calls for proposals. A key change for this year is that Rekryteringar will be divided into two separate programmes. In addition, several programmes will be given new, more descriptive names. Here’s a brief overview of the most important changes for this year’s application round.

" We are continuously developing our operations to enhance our performance and respond to changes in our external environment. At the same time, we are committed to support universities in their long-term planning by offering predictable funding opportunities. Much remains the same, and applicants will recognise our programme portfolio from previous years.

What’s new this year

Clearer programme structure and new names

For this year’s application round, several of the Knowledge Foundation’s programmes will be given new names that more clearly describe their content and purpose. The aim is to make it easier for researchers, companies, and other stakeholders to understand and navigate our offerings. One example is the programme Hög, which will be renamed to Research Projects.

Rekryteringar will divided into two programmes

The programme Rekryteringar will be split into two separate programmes with the preliminary names Associate senior lectureship and Capacity building. The goal is to enhance the programme’s role as a tool for strategic recruitment and increased mobility.

  • Associate senior lectureship: Provides funding for the recruitment of young, outstanding researchers. The programme gives recruited assiocate senior lecturers the opportunity to develop their research and enhance their teaching qualifications. For each associate senior lecturer, funding is also provided for a PhD student. More information about the programme’s structure will be presented later this spring.

  • Capacity building: Offers funding for the recruitment of temporary staff for capacity building. To stimulate new international networks and collaborations, universities can apply for funding to recruit international guest researchers – an expansion of the previous form international guest professors. The programme also provides funding for the recruitment of adjunct professors and lecturers, aimed at increasing knowledge exchange between academia and industry.

" The competition for outstanding researchers is fierce. At the same time, recruitments plays a crucial role in developing research and education environments. With our new programme for associate senior lectureship, we aim to provide our target universities with better opportunities to attract talented researchers.
Petter Zirath
Programme Manager for the new programmes Associate senior lectureship and Capacity building

The Knowledge Foundation will no longer offer funding for the recruitment of senior lecturers and professors. The purpose of this change is to allocate more resources to the new programme Associate senior lectureship and to better align the offerings with demand. For several years, no applications have been received for the recruitment of professors.

Synergi is simplified

The programme Synergi  will be simplified by removing the requirement for three sub-projects and a core question. More information on the programme’s structure will be presented later this spring.

Funding levels reviewed

In some programmes, funding levels will be increased, allowing applicants to apply for slightly higher amounts.

This year’s calls for proposals will open on 9 September. More information about the new programme names and the conditions for this year’s calls will be available later this spring. By June at the latest, we will publish the call for proposals texts for all programmes.
